Krauthammer on Iran

20 June 2009

Is it possible that a successful revolution in Iran – a longshot – might, in the long run, give democracy a stronger foothold in the Middle East?  What if there was a regime change?  Might that help to stabilize Iraq further?  Charles Krauthammer certainly thinks so, and that it is a crime that the Obama administration is not lending rhetorical support (to say nothing of even stronger means) to the young protesters, many of whom had no stake in the Islamic revolution of the late 1970s.

If we do or say nothing, and Khamenei is able to solidify his grasp on power by quashing the uprising, this may have been one of the best, missed opportunities we have had.  The November Mistake is becoming a disaster.
