LeBron vs. Kobe

19 January 2009

Monster talents, game-changing presences on the court.  (Who needs college experience when you have the NBA goods as a HS graduate?)

Given a choice between one or the other to add to my own Dream Team, though, there is no contest.  I dislike the Lakers (I’m a Spurs and Mavs homer in the Texas Panhandle), but I go with Kobe.  As incredible as he is individually when his team needs him, and as gaudy as his individual career stats are, he seems to be maturing into the secure superstar who doesn’t have to be the center of attention (and the center of statistical mass) in every game.  LeBron, on the other hand, seems to play as if the one-man-show is his team’s eternal destiny.

Look, the Aspen hijinks were/are a problem.  But given a mandatory choice between the two to fill the shooting-guard or small-forward slot, I go with Kobe, hands down, no question, no debate.

Put Kobe at the 2 and LeBron at the 3 and don’t worry about it.
