Toward Coherent Christianity: Helpful Authors and Teachers

18 August 2008

1.  Important authors who help us assemble a coherent faith in the Christian tradition, and who help us deconstruct the modern, Western myths that insinuate themselves (mostly for the worse) into our understanding of the church:

Dallas Willard, Eugene Peterson, Richard Hays, Philip Kenneson, Walter Brueggemann, C. S. Lewis, Henri Nouwen

2.  A teacher from the medical realm who helps us build a sturdier, rational framework for Christian ethics:

Dr. John Patrick (www.johnpatrick.ca; http://www.amfriendsaugustine.org)

3.  Authors who are now “on deck” in qb’s reading stack, with reviews to come in the next year or two:

Hannah Arendt (n=5), Barbara Brown Taylor (n=4), Lesslie Newbigin (n=4), Alasdair Macintyre (n=3), Neil Postman (n=2), William Cavanaugh (n=1), Scot McKnight (n=2).
