Closing Day at Steamboat

6 April 2008

qb never got a chance to make any turns this year, but he enjoyed watching from a distance as the natives rollicked in a record-shattering season – which ended today with the snow still flying.  What a year!  As of today, qb’s favorite ski resort had enjoyed 489″ of their delicious, frothy powder, with more in the forecast.

I hate closing days.

Tomorrow, the slopes will be barren and lonely, except for a few patrols cleaning up the place.  No more burgers and brewskis and laughing bunnies on the patio mid-mountain. No more nursing sore quads in the hot tubs around town, making sure to recover before the lift lines open the next day.  It’s over for 2008.

Now we’ll all be waiting for the snow to melt so we can ride the gondola up to the top of Mt. Werner with our mountain bikes, just to get our fix until it’s time to wax up the boards again.

So raise a mug of your favorite brew with me, and let’s toast a season for the ages.  Incredible.

Only 7 months and 20 days until Opening Day!
